Joy of Giving - Sir Branson Way

Sir Richard Branson, a British entrepreneur and a billionaire has promised to donate at least half of his fortune to charity. He is a founder of the Virgin Group. He has added his name to the Giving Pledge campaign set-up by the U.S. investor Warren Buffett and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Sir Richard Branson and his wife Joan Templeman have said in their pledge letter that they wanted to use cash from the company to create ‘a healthy, equitable, and peaceful world for future generations to enjoy’.

According to the Daily Mail, they said, “stuff really is not what brings happiness. Family, friends, good health and the satisfaction that comes from making a positive difference are what really matters”.

The reports on the poverty in Britain are alarming. Nearly half of all the children living in the most deprived urban areas are living below the poverty line.

The Giving Pledge was started three years ago by Bill Gates, his wife Melinda and Warren Buffett. And this initiative has encouraged more than 30 other U.S. billionaires to get on the board within just few months. This initiative does not actually accept any money but asks the billionaires to make a moral commitment to give away their wealth to charity and philanthropy.

Enlightened Leadership Views:

Life is really a mystery. Sometimes taking gives us happiness, and sometimes giving gives us happiness. And eventually surrender to the divine can give us the ultimate happiness. Henry Ford says that a business that makes nothing but money is a poor business. In a true sense, we all are on a journey of happiness in life. The whole spectrum of spirituality is to discover this happiness within and without. Taking can be a way to giving. And giving can be a way to surrender. Buddha gave everything he had to understand that inner joy and happiness. Money can lead to Moksha. Dollars can lead to Dhamma. And a Business can also lead to Buddhahood.
