Can Enlightened Leadership give Business Success and Personal Success?

Everyday Zen

For years now Deepak Chopra is teaching a course on “Enlightened Leadership” at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. After the consequences of the global recession and extreme political unrest for the last couple of years, he strongly feels that it is now time for a different kind of leadership. He has been emphasizing the importance of enlightened leadership to business leaders at Ernst & Young, Pepsi, and Cisco. He strongly believes that the U.S. leadership has become ineffective and needs a change in the leadership domain. He feels that enlightened leadership will be most appropriate for the current economic and social situation that the country is facing. He feels that the U.S. corporate and political leadership has almost led to bankruptcy. He feels that we should nurture leadership that aims at unlocking the highest human potential. He says that Wall Street has almost broken because it succumbed to greed, corruption, and pure speculation without any values. He talks great about President Obama and he says that he is an exception and he fulfills all the criteria that he talks about in his book The Soul of Leadership.

When asked about what is Enlightened Leadership he says, “It is a kind of leadership that unlocks the potential for greatness in the leader and those that follow the leader. Enlightened Leadership is spiritual if we understand spirituality not as some kind of religious dogma or ideology but as the domain of awareness where we experience values like truth, goodness, beauty, love, and compassion, and also intuition, creativity, insight, and focused attention. These are the ingredients of success, really”.
